Track renewal Utrecht–Amsterdam
During the weekend of February 14 and 15, 2026, there was a very limited train service between Utrecht and Amsterdam, which was exceptionally frustrating for passengers.
However, urgent repairs had to be carried out; components of two high-speed tracks were replaced.
This had to be done as quickly as possible to prevent further disruptions. Therefore, work continued 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It was not an easy task, but ProRail and Strukton managed to achieve it.
Next to a rail road excavator a giant Gottwald crane was needed to replace the parts, which had to be placed on nearby tracks in the city. The work area was next to a metro line, which had to remain in service.
The overhead lines had to be deactivated over a large area to keep the workspace safe for the railway workers, which also affected train traffic. All of this took place during a busy weekend with additional maintenance work and events in Amsterdam and in the south of the country.
